CTR Lasers - Materials-Films And Foils

FILMS & FOILS

A CTR laser cutting machine has certain advantages over more traditional methods of cutting polycarbonate, polyester or polyimide membrane keyboards, since it is faster than a cutting plotter, provides more precision than punching dies, and is more economical for small series up to 2000 pieces at a time.

Laser cutting seals the cut edges and provides controlled fusing of foils and films, no pressure is exerted on the foils or films by a tool which means the end product will turn out perfect as the entire process is contactless. As opposed to working with a knife/punch, the laser cutting of the foil or film does not result in chipping on the end product.

Film materials suitable for laser cutting include

How does laser cutting of foils and films work?

The controlled fusing of the material ensures clean cut edges without any soiling, and the laser offers many advantages when working with multilayer films.

Several layers, such as backing, adhesive and top film, can be cut in one work step. Depending on the layer structure and the strength of the film, up to 10 layers can be cut in the composite material.

Will I need to fix/clamp the material in the working area?

Not at all. There is no physical contact between the laser and the material whilst being processed just place the material and start the laser process. For really light materials we have the option of installing a vacuum bed. This ensures that thin or wavy materials are positioned flat on the work table. No pressure is exerted on the material during laser cutting of foils and films, so neither clamping nor any other type of fixation is required.

Contact CTR Lasers

We didn't realise we had purchased more than a laser cutter from CTR. Indeed in a recent service visit, the engineer spent a lot of time demonstrating what the machine could do after he had undone our mess. He arrived with a smile the same day ...
