Materials-Wood and Veneers

A CTR laser system can produce high-resolution engravings that simply cannot be replicated by competing methods. When cutting wood with the laser, high processing speed and clean edges are particularly important. Woodcutting lasers from CTR produce clean accurate edges, even when working on detailed object shapes and sizes.

Types of wood suitable for laser cutting and laser engraving include

  • Alder wood
  • Balsa wood
  • Bamboo
  • Beechwood
  • Birch

Does the wood burn during laser cutting?

It really depends on the wood, as some will have a deep brown finish and some will have quite a light finish to the cut edge, however if you use the right setting you shouldn’t get a ‘cremated’ look to the wood. This can be minimised by using compressed air and quite often the colouring can often be used effectively in the design.

Will I need to fix/clamp the material in the working area?

Not at all. There is no physical contact between the laser and the material whilst being processed just place the material and start the laser process. For really light materials like veneers we have the option of installing a vacuum bed. This ensures that thin or wavy materials are positioned flat on the work table.
